More information about the Upgrade Advisor and upgrading to Endpoint Security version 9.5

When you click the 'Download now' button, you will download a new upgrade tool which will detect your current system settings and provide a personalized set of upgrade instructions.

Step 1

Download and run the tool on your management server. This is usually the server on which you installed Enterprise Console.

Step 2

Address any problems that the tool may list, such as when you are not logged on as an Administrator. If you have received a critical error, you must run the Upgrade Advisor again before you can proceed.

Step 3

At the end of the Upgrade Advisor Wizard, ensure that you launch the upgrade instructions, as these include links to the download locations for the software and important upgrade instructions based on your specific environment.

Step 4

Follow the personalized instructions to help you upgrade your system.

Step 5

Fill out a short survey on the upgrade process to help improve future releases.

CAUTION:
If you encounter problems during the upgrade of Enterprise Console, please refer to the Enterprise Console 4/4.5 troubleshooting article - please do not attempt to uninstall a partially installed version of Enterprise without either reading this further guidance or contacting technical support. Uninstalling your new version of Enterprise Console may leave it in an unusable state.

Notes about system requirements

Enterprise Console 4.5 requires:

  • SQL Server 2005 (Express) or higher
  • Windows Server 2003 or higher*

During this upgrade, you may be required to upgrade one or both of SQL and Windows Server.

If you still wish to upgrade from Enterprise Console 3, but you do not wish to upgrade these systems at this time, please visit the Endpoint Security and Control version 9 Upgrade Center for help upgrading to Enterprise Console 4.

Notes about SQL Server/SQL Express Edition

  1. If the Upgrade Advisor reports that you must upgrade to a newer of version of SQL manually to install this upgrade, you will have to either:
    • Download and install SQL Server 2005/2008 Express Edition
    • Purchase an upgrade from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005/2008
  2. During this upgrade, your database may be upgraded from MSDE to SQL Server Express 2005.

In a small minority of cases, your database may be upgraded to SQL Server Express 2008. However:
    • SQL Server Express 2008 cannot be installed on Windows Server 2003 SP1, therefore, you will need to upgrade to service pack 2 in order to install the new database format.
    • SQL Server Express 2008 cannot be installed on Windows XP, so if you have previously installed Enterprise Console on this operating system (not recommended), you will have to download and install SQL Server Express 2005 from the Microsoft website.

* The upgrade on Windows XP is supported if you have previously installed on that operating system, though this installation is not recommended.
