Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV)

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization offers a complete solution for server virtualization management. Built upon the same trusted Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization brings reliable, cost-cutting virtualization technology into the datacenter.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization is an end-to-end virtualization solution that is designed to enable pervasive datacenter virtualization, and unlock unprecedented capital and operational efficiency. Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Servers builds upon the Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform that is trusted by millions of organizations around the world for their most mission-critical workloads.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Servers provides:

• Record-breaking performance and scalability

• Industry-leading security

• Widest ecosystem of hardware and enterprise ISVs

• Lowest total cost of ownership in its class

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization is the ideal platform on which to build an internal or private cloud of Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Windows virtual machines.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization helps your organization meet the challenges of virtualization:

·           Performance and scalability – Providing near — and better than — bare-metal performance and industry-leading scalability for enterprise workloads.

·           Security – Leveraging SELinux and the hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernel to provide a secure virtualization infrastructure.

·           Ecosystem – Supporting the leading enterprise hardware, operating systems, and applications certified for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

·           Cost – Bringing unbeatable value in enterprise virtualization by subscription.

Red Hat Identity Management

Red Hat Directory Server

Red Hat Directory Server is an LDAP-compliant server that centralizes application settings, user profiles, group data, policies, and access control information into a network-based registry.

Directory Server simplifies user management by eliminating data redundancy and automating data maintenance. Red Hat Directory Server also improves security, enabling administrators to store policies and access control information in the directory for a single authentication source across enterprise or extranet applications.

Directory Server reduces administration costs and increases availability, providing the scalability and information control to manage access across partner, supplier, and customer relationships.

Red Hat Certificate System

Red Hat Certificate System provides a powerful security framework to manage user identities and ensure privacy of communications. Handling all the major functions of the identity life cycle, Red Hat Certificate System simplifies enterprise-wide deployment and adoption of a Public Key Infrastructure.

Red Hat Certificate System works behinds the scenes to issue, renew, suspend, revoke, and manage single and dual-key X.509v3 certificates needed to handle strong authentication, single sign-on, and secure communications.

Support for Global Platform permits direct communication between a registration authority and a smart card for key management tasks such as enrollment and PIN reset. As a result, Red Hat Certificate System now provides the first end-to-end smart card solution throughout the user management life cycle.

Red Hat Network

Red Hat Network is a systems management platform that makes Linux deployable, scalable, and manageable. It provides lower total cost of ownership (TCO) through complete lifecycle

management, letting you increase the number of systems in your environment without adding additional administration resources.

Red Hat Network is an easy-to-use systems management platform for your Linux infrastructure. It is built on open standards and uses a web-based graphical interface. Its services are provided through modules that allow you to add enhanced management capabilities.

Red Hat Network Satellite

RHN Satellite server provide simple tools to efficiently manage the life cycle of systems on your network This includes provisioning new systems, managing their updates and configuration changes, monitoring system performance, and eventually re-deploying the systems for a new purpose. Administration and management of your systems can be distributed based upon your organizational requirements.

RHN Satellite creates a more consistent Enterprise Linux environment with standardized machine configurations. With RHN Satellite, you can instantly see the status of your systems and know if any are missing important patches or configuration changes. Not only does this improve security, but you can also easily measure and report on the patch level of systems in your company.

RHN Satellite lowers deployment, configuration, and management costs. Your security posture is improved through a single centralized management tool, secure connection policies for remote administration, standardized machine configurations, and digitally signed content.

Red Hat Network Proxy Server

Proxy servers can be added to your Hosted or Satellite environment to scale content distribution across many servers and multiple locations. Individual systems connect through a local Red Hat Network Proxy to communicate with your Satellite or the central RHN servers (in the Hosted model).

The Proxy aggregates all necessary data and performs selected tasks locally. Content is cached locally at the Proxy for faster downloads, easier distribution, and lower bandwidth requirements.

Red Hat Network Proxy Server can do something’s like cache content locally to reduce download times, lower bandwidth use, and scale globally.

Red Hat Cluster Suite

Red Hat Cluster Suite (RHCS) is an integrated set of software components that can be deployed in a variety of configurations to suit your needs for performance, high-availability, load balancing, scalability, file sharing, and economy.

Red Hat Cluster Suite includes clustering features like the high availability clustering

capability, called Cluster Manager. This provides continued application operation in the event of server shutdown or failure. The second feature, called IP Load Balancing (originally called Piranha), provides network load balancing. It allows a front-end server to redirect IP network packets to a group of back-end servers in a balanced manner, thereby improving the total network performance.

Cluster Manager provides a failover infrastructure for applications that fall into several categories:

·           Generic, unmodified applications. Most custom in-house applications can be used in Cluster Manager environments. This applies to any application that can tolerate a few seconds of downtime.

·           Databases. Cluster Manager is the ideal way to deliver highly available databases, including Oracle 8i/9i, DB2, MySQL and Red Hat Database.

·           Heterogeneous File Serving. Cluster Manager brings high availability to file serving environments such as NFS and SMB/CIFS (using Samba).

·           Mainstream Commercial Applications. Cluster Manager can be used with applications such as SAP, Oracle Application Server and Tuxedo.

·           Internet, and Open Source applications. Cluster Manager fully supports the most popular Internet and Open Source applications (e.g. Apache).

·           Messaging. Using applications such as Sendmail and Domino.

As a modern clustering implementation, Cluster Manager has been specifically developed for use with today's commodity hardware products; it does not require expensive, special purpose hardware components. All the configurations described in this paper can be built using standard commodity products. In some cases optional items can be added to further increase system availability, such as an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
